fileXhub Deployment Options

fileXHub can be deployed in a wide variety of network configurations to suit your needs. In each scenario, you can click on the image to see a full-size picture of the network configuration.

The first configuration is what you get when you install fileXhub on your workstation and do nothing to make the fileXhub server available to others.

The second configuration is what you get when you install fileXhub on your workstation and open your local firewall to make the fileXhub server available to others. Your fileXhub is available to others in your local area network by having users use a URL (shown during installation) that references your workstation by its IP address. This URL is something like http://10.10.10.43/portal or http://192.168.1.103/portal. You can determine the appropriate IP address by opening a command shell (type 'COMMAND' in the search box that opens directly above the Start Button on your desktop) and then type 'IPCONFIG' at the 'C:\Users\Username>' prompt. The fourth line should read something like 'IPv4 Address . . . . . . . . . 10.10.10.43'. Use this number.

- or you may choose to install fileXhub on a server in your LAN.

If you want your fileXhub application to be available to users outside your LAN, you have several choices. The least expensive is to open a port on your firewall and forward requests to your workstation. This requires some skill in configuring your router. Cisco has a nice article on port forwarding.

If you are doing this at work, your network administrator can do this for you, but in many cases will prefer one of the configurations below to reduce risk to the enterprise network.

This configuration is a typical enterprise configuration with the server on a network segment available to both local users and the public Internet.

Your business may prefer to outsource the hosting of the server and put it 'in the Cloud' like this:

BIT can help you get this 'Cloud' configuration set up with a hosting provider for nominal cost. See our Forum Post or contact us for more information.
